This application is a remote-configurable antivirus program, due to its modular structure. These modules may be installed separately, so that the admins use the Control Program on their own workstation.
AVIRA Resident Service runs silently in the background, monitoring all file operations. When the user performs a file operation (e.g. launching a program, opening a document), this is automatically scanned against viruses and unwanted programs.
The Control Program is a special interface, designed to configure and monitor the Resident Service. As such, it offers the possibility to manage several Resident Services installed on different servers in the network.
Limitations:
- The Installation Kit comes fully featured. By default, the Update Service is disabled after the 30-days evaluation period.

Server v 1.6.1.9. It is built on the new scan engine version 6.33,
which continues to bring enhancements in AVIRA solutions operation
and performance.
Starting with AVIRA Engine version 6.33, AVIRA for Windows Server
supports the incremental VDF updates.
We strongly recommend that you install the latest product kit from
our website, in order to insure a complete transition from the old
product structure (Engine version 6.32), to the new one.
Please note that AVIRA will support the old VDF update method until
May 31, 2006. Starting with June 2006, this technique will no
longer be available.
* New Features:
- Incremental Virus Definitions Update:
The incremental VDF Update method consists in grouping the virus
definitions into four files: basic VDF, monthly VDF, weekly VDF,
daily VDF. In this way, the usual update will only replace the daily
VDF, which will have only a few hundreds of kilobytes. This means
that download volume and download time will be considerably reduced,
resulting in minimized download costs and maximized security level of
the system.
- On-access archive scanning.
* Enhancements:
- On-access archive scanning
Max. 1 recursion level; max. 16 files to be unpacked; max. 1MB
total size of all unpacked files; the following archive types are
not scanned: ace, ace sfx, jar, mime, bsd mailbox, netscape/
mozilla mailbox, eudora mailbox. Also, files with extension mdb,
edb, chk or without extension are not scanned, even if "all files"
option is activated.
- Starting with the 6.33 version, the Internet Update Manager for
Windows Server supports the incremental VDF Updates, e.g. Windows
Server can be selected in the products list.
- The Updater now also supports single update for avpack32.dll.
The corresponding IDX file is named AVPACK.IDX. It results in a
faster implementation and distribution of the new compressing tool
and an increase in the security level through extensive recognition
of the archived files. |
